Navratri is starting from 21st of September and all devotees of Mata Durga started preparing for the festival. This is the one of the famous Festival in India. On this popular festival, devotees of goddess Durga send navratri messages to their loved ones and it brings non-stop fun for nine days. It’s celebrated by all the people across the nation. Navratri derived from two words- “Nav” + “Ratri”, which means nine nights. In every state of India, Navratri celebrated by different names.

Hindus celebrate Navratri festival to express their Bhakti to the goddess of Power, Mata Durga. Her Devoteesworship her for nine days and each day they worshiped nine forms of her and also follow the nine days rituals. The Tenth Day is celebrated as Vijay Dushmani or Dussehra.

The most amazing part of this festival is that it’s celebrated in two times called Vasant Navratri and Sharadda Navratri. It’s celebrated in the honor of nine forms of goddess Durga, dance and music are the most important part about Navratri. Devotees worship nine forms of Durga, first three days they worship Durga as it believed that Durga destroys evil and next three days, devotees worshipped Goddess Lakshmi who is said to be the goddess of wealth and prosperity and last three days Goddess Saraswati worshipped who is said to be the Goddess wisdom.

Usually, the Navratri festival is celebrated in mid of March or April and mid of September or October but the dates are decided according to the lunar calendar and it is believed that the start of autumn and spring are considered to be an auspicious time to worship Durga. Navratri festival symbolizes power, the power of destroying evil. Devotees follow the dress code for each day and especially women wear a dress of that color. People also worship as a Shakti power.

History also states that before Pandavas and Kauravas waged war, Krishna had worshiped Shakti so that the Pandavas emerge victorious in the war. Brahma is said to have mentioned that the very first incarnation of Shakti was Shailputri, whereas other incarnations were Brahmacharini, Chandraghanta, Kushmanda, Skandamata, Katyayani, Kalaratri, Mahagauri and Siddhidatri.

Deliver the Gayatri Mantra in Navratri is also important for devotees in Navratri. Devotees believed that Gayatri mantra is very auspicious during Navratri. Fasting is also very important ritual followed during Navratri.  Devotees do fast for whole nine days. In those nine days, they eat only once in a day in the evening.

In Navratri, “Dandiya” and “Garbha” is one of the most popular and colorful dance in Gujarat and Mumbai, these two states Celebrate Navratri in a unique way. People do Grabha and Dandiya in circles and dance by using bamboo sticks in their hands called Dandiya. Devotees do this dance when arti has done. Devotees don’t dance with the people they know but joined randomly groups. The dance might look easy but only good performers can do well.
