With the advent of the New Year, we always knew that we are going a step closer to the electric mobility. Though not in a very big way, most of the automakers are set to make substantial developments in this field. Tata Motors is also no different from the other manufacturers.

In fact, since the past year, the company has been working hard on making an electric car like Tata Vista. The electric version of the latest cars from the company is already in the works and would make it to the roads soon.

So let’s have a look at the Tata electric cars that we will be seeing in the year 2018.

Tata Neo (Tata Nano Electric)

The Tata Nano has a very rich history in the budget small hatchback segment. It was one of the most affordable cars at the time of its introduction. However, the car has seen a steep decline in its sales over the last half decade which has caused big concerns for the homegrown automaker.

However, the company has managed to revive the existence of the car by joining hands with Jayem automobiles. According to the pack, Tata will be supplying the body and components to Jayem. The later, on the other hand, will be developing and installing electric motors in the car.

Tata Neo is expected to get on sale towards the second half of 2018 and will be available primarily for the cab fleet with a smaller battery pack. However, it will be open for personal use soon after will a bigger battery.

Tata Tiago Electric

Tata Tiago is one of the most successful cars from the house of Tata. Based on the Impact Design language, the Tiago gained a widespread great momentum in its sales due to its attractive design and a small price tag.

Recently, Tata Motors European Technical Centre showcased an electric version of the car that had an 85kW battery pack, capable of developing a massive 200 Nm torque. However, this is just a technological display and the actual production model is expected to get a much smaller mechanism and an electric drive range of 150 kms.

Tata Tigor Electric

Gone are the days when Tata cars failed to perform at the Indian market. The present breed of cars from the company are equally popular as any other from any major passenger car brand. The Tata Tigor is one of the cars that has been met with a huge response around a year ago.

The Tigor, marketed as the style back, is a compact sedan with a coupe-ish design. The company also managed to bag a huge tender by the government of supplying electric cars. And just like regular internal combustion version, the Tigor EV will get the same mechanism under the hood as the hatchback model, that is, a 30kW battery motor which would have a driving range of 150 kms.

However, we are still not sure if Tata Motors will offer the Tigor EV to the general public or not. As of now, the usage for the cab fleet is most likely.

Tata’s future in electric mobility

Mahindra & Mahindra may have been the first automaker to bring on fully-electric cars in India in the form of the e2o and e-Verito. However, Tata Motors is expected to hit the mark soon or may even manage to overhaul Mahindra soon.

And once all of these electric cars are launched, Tata will be a step ahead of all the automakers in India in terms of electric mobility. You can find the latest news, read articles or even know more about the specifications of any car on Autoportal.com.
